March 2006 Newsletter

The Linguist Community Blog is a place for our members to get to know each other. I have started posting some examples of our members' writing there. I find these writing samples very interesting.

Some people talk about their lives just is if they were making entries in a personal diary. Some people talk about their experiences learning English, their successes and their frustrations. Some people answer the sample TOEFL questions that we have on the WRITE page.

These writing samples have been corrected by The Linguist, although there may still be a few mistakes that were missed. We make sure that the identity of the person who wrote each article is hidden. It does not matter who wrote these. Together they give an interesting picture of the kinds of people who are learning English with The Linguist system, and their daily struggles and thoughts.

It is not possible to eliminate the little numbers that show where corrections were made. I do not think that this matters. I hope that seeing these writing samples will encourage others to write.

I have also recorded a discussion with Tracey on writing. This discussion was carried out using Skype. I intend to talk to our learners via Skype and record these discussions. I would like to talk to our learners in English and then in their respective native language, at least the ones that I know. I will then post the recordings of these discussions on our community blog. I hope all of you will go to the blog. I hope you will post on the blog. I look forward to ideas on how to make the blog even better.

I forgot to mention that Skype discussions are recorded using a very effective free software program recommended by our learner Tony Chiang, called Powergramo.
